IR 556 Politics, Economics and Foreign Policy in Greece (3-0)3 Print E-mail

Course Objective

The aims of this course are to enable the students to understand Greek economy, politics and foreign policy in different international environments since the establishment of the Greek state in the 19th century, and to see the linkages between economics, politics and foreign policy in Greece.

Course Content

During the lectures and seminars, the political, economic and foreign policy establishments in Greece in different international environments will be discussed. The institutional structures and the power positions and orientations of main individual actors and groups and their respective roles in the economic and political developments are analyzed with a special emphasis on the democratization and Europeanization processes. The relations with major European powers, Turkey, the US, and the EU are analyzed with reference to the domestic political and economic structures and actors.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of lectures and seminars the students are expected to be able to evalute and explain the economic, political and foreign policy developments in Greece from a multidimensional perspective. They are also expected to become familar how to make a country study.
